MY Life As A “Show Cat”
Hi everyone: My name is “SweetPea.” I’m here to tell you the tribulations of a kitten from a two stop-light town and his rise to prominence in the world of CFA. It is a story of intrigue, world travel, kid (cat) napping, bad weather, lost luggage and handler frustrations. It starts with my good friend Susan Beuerlein taking me to a couple of shows in Florida to achieve the award of Grand Champion. While attending these shows in Florida Roeann Fulkerson sees me; and invites me to a photo shoot in NYC, where Cindy is staying at the time for work. My mom Robyn and I fly to NYC and I meet Cindy for the first time. It was love at first sight, Ms. Cindy not only appreciated my gentle nature, and stunning blue eyes; she also said that I was more hansom than my sire GC Chocolado Prince Charming.
While in NYC for the photo shoot it became readily apparent that my career as a ‘cat model” was to be very short lived. Lights, cameras, and action were just not my deal. Ms. Robyn was both embarrassed and disappointed by my behavior at the photo shoot. She then decides to enter the Siamese Alliance show in Lebanon, Pa so Ms. Cindy can see just how great I am in the show ring.. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship with Cindy, the Mom of my heart. She was impressed with my type, temperament, and style and decided to be my mentor to fame and success. It was a good choice for her and me. Mind you, if my Cindy offers to “help you out showing a little”, you need to be prepared for a world tour.
Lebanon, PA: Are there any sane humans left in this world? Loss of auto rental reservations, hotel reservations, driving across Manhattan on a holiday weekend lead to potential physical violence between Robyn and Cindy. A giant fiasco, and that was just getting to the show. Despite all the problems with my handlers at this first show I managed to be awarded Best Siamese in show. Little did I know what that fateful weekend would lead to. Robyn left me in New York.
Hong Kong: Since Mom Cindy flies virtually for free, she decided to enter me in a show in Asia. With my son, the Chipster as a traveling companion we traveled to our native lands (Hong Kong is close to Thailand.) With a large crate allowing joint accommodations, custom bedding, food, and water the trip was mostly sleep time. With our passports and microchips in order, customs was an easy in and out. Turns out we were the only Siamese in the show. Imagine that! Rested and refreshed by our time in the lovely hotel we were ready to shine. And SHINE we did, setting off a flurry of interest by spectators, all of whom seemed to want to take our picture. I would like to believe our presence at this great show will lead to more Siamese being shown in China in the near future.
Germany: Soon after Hong Kong, we went to Europe for a show and again, we did well. In fact, the Siamese in both Asia and Europe are going to be much more developed under CFA auspices due to my beauty and ranking. My offspring will have a lot to do with their future.
After all that travel by trains, planes, and automobiles, I settled into a routine with both of my moms sharing custody and care for me. Cindy spoiled me outrageously; feeding me cooked salmon and other wonderful things. Robyn does not cook. Robyn gave me more healthy foods (they were okay) and showed me across the continental Unites States.
I missed Mom Cindy terribly. Did I mention Robyn does not cook? In addition to her cooking, Mom Cindy kissed me on my nose, and told me how hansom I was. She gave me courage, always believed in me; and I always wanted to do my best for her.
Finally these two figured it out, decided to do what was best for me, and I am now residing with the love of my life, Mom Cindy. Ms. Robyn is allowed generous visitation rights and I can now focus on the next step in my career, siring healthy, intelligent, loving Siamese for the entire world to enjoy at shows for generations to come. I like to think I did it “my way.”
Finally, I would like to congratulate all of my fine feline friends that graced CFA’s top 25. We met some great people along the way and formed some new friendships. It was often hard to keep focused with stunning females on either side of me. I look forward to seeing all of your children and grandchildren in the coming show seasons.
